The History of KBC
The Kingshighway Baptist Church was begun as a German Baptist mission in south St. Louis in 1908. God marvelously blessed this ministry. The attendance of 52 people in a house in south St. Louis on its first Sunday grew so rapidly land was purchased on Morgan Ford and a small chapel building was erected.
The work continued to grow. When World War I began the decision was made to switch from German to English and to begin meeting on Sunday mornings with a full church program, and organize the chapel into a fully incorporated church.
Within a few years this building proved to be inadequate and land was purchased on the corner of Eichelberger and Kingshighway. A new beautiful building was begun which would seat over 300 people. It was a lovely red brick building with stained glass windows and a pipe organ.
In 1956 this building proved to be too small and a total remodeling was begun which included enlarging the auditorium and adding a three story educational building.
Even before the building was completed the attendance began to decrease and for the following nearly 50 years a very slow but definite trend downward continued. The attendance had decreased until in 2002 there were only about 25 in attendance. Then, by the grace of God, a new pastor was called, attendance began to increase, and several ministries were begun. Morning worship has increased to nearly 100 and evening services were begun.
Today Kingshighway Baptist Church has many ministries functioning. The attendance has been on the increase. We invite you to be a part of:
